Scholarships for Military Children Program

If you have a child who is attending or planning to attend college, you probably already know that the costs of higher education can be astronomical. To provide some financial relief to military families, and to recognize their contributions to the readiness of America’s fighting force, the Defense Commissary Agency sponsors the Scholarships for Military Children Program.
Funded by the manufacturers and suppliers whose products are sold at military commissaries around the world, the program awards a minimum of one $2,000 scholarship at every commissary location where qualified applications are received. Now in its 15th year, the program, which is administered by the Fisher House Foundation, has awarded over $12.5 million dollars to military children.
If you are a service member with a dependent unmarried child under the age of 23 who is enrolling or planning on enrolling in a full-time undergraduate degree program, they may be eligible to apply for this scholarship. The money can be used for school-related expense including tuition, books, or lab fees.
Scholarship winners are selected based on the following criteria:
- Academic achievement (minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 basis for high school students or 2.5 for college applicants)
- Participation in school, community and volunteer activities
- Work experience
- A short essay on a given topic
Applications must be submitted directly to your commissary in person or by mail no later than February 13, 2015. No email or faxed applications will be accepted.
